Told the landlord I'm outta here!

Talked to my landlady today about leaving when my lease is up.  She seemed pretty understanding.  I went down later and asked if they would mind letting me out a month early, and she said she had to discuss it with her hubby.  So if they let me out early, I am looking at a hard deadline of august 1st!  Whew time seems like it is going by so fast but other times it seems like forever.  A bit of apprehension, a bit of excitement.

The downside to an august ETA is i will be stuck in the hotter part of the year, so I will be leaping right into the fire.

Look at that sexy floor woo!

Well the floor is done, and doesn't look too bad.  If it wasn't so cheap to use carpet tiles, I would use something else I think.  They are very hard to get in without any gaps between the tiles and the glue is pretty messy and seeps thru the gaps in a  couple spots.

Luckily, the worse looking gaps like the two above (upper left) will be hidden by the bed and other framing.

I think overall it came out looking fairly good, and is way better than just plywood.  Especially for around 15 bucks.  An area rug at the dollar general costs more than that.

Next up is either the divider wall, or the cabinets.  If i can swing it, id like to get the house batteries soon as well.

Floor Matters...

Work is progressing, usually on my days off from work.   We patched the holes in the floor as best we could with sheet metal...we really lacked the tools to do a proper job but at least they are covered.  I laid reflectix over the floor as an insulating barrier, then plywood on top.  We used a lot of scrap pieces but in the end it all got covered pretty well.  The self tapping screws were a little large, but you work with what ya got.

The original idea was to put down rhino-liner, but I felt it was just too much money for the floor.  So, i went down to the outreach center again to see if they had any good deals on flooring.  Well, turns out they had a huge box of carpet tiles.  I didn't really want carpet for a number of reasons, but it was 24 cents for each 18" x 18" tile.  That means i could get 40 of them for 10 bucks, and 5 bucks more for 5 gallons of adhesive.  This was too cheap to pass up.  I am not real thrilled with the pattern on them, but it isn't terrible either.   It will certainly keep clean easily as far as carpet goes.

The rails above will be used to assist the futon in sliding out later.
