Launch of Wright Wood Crafts website

http://www.wrightwoodcrafts.com

Announcimg the launch of my wood crafting site.  Up to now I have been primarily relying on etsy as my only web presense, but lately I have found that lacking.  I wanted my own domain I can stamp my signs with to refer people to, as well as a place to show off all the work that I have done, even if they aren't for sale (such as some of the cool custom work I do).

And since I'm a cheapskate, not just in vanliving but everything, I went with a website method that costs me only $13 dollars a year.  So ill share it with you.  I can probably even go cheaper if i use a 3rd party domain, but for ease of use I just used google domains.  Basically I made another blog like this one...why pay expensive web hosting when I can have that for free?  You can do just about everything you need to with blogger and some custom code. For the e-commerce end, I'm just linking to etsy for now but plan to cut etsy out of main website and use the free shopping cart Square gives me.   Just haven't had much internet lately to get it up yet, so might be some construction mess over there :)

Btw, if you want to take payments for credit cards, use Square...cheaper than any other way and as mentioned, free shopping cart, no listing fees, and you pay the same if you swipe on smartphone, or invoice (square lets you send invoices to email like paypal).  They also transfer the money to your account next day automatically.  We get free processing if you use my link there too.

Now I just need to make some more marketable products lol

Too much space?!

So I am preparing to drop the van off to the mechanic soon, and moving my stuff to the camper.  Im guessing in a barter system, my van wont be a priority time wise for him.   But what strikes me is just how small an amount of stuff i have in a different context.  In the van i felt a little cramped, like it was time to cut back on some things.  But i have most of it in the popup camper and i have not even used any of the cabinetry or under seat storage areas!   It is almost like i have more space than i know what to do with.  Which is a strange feeling.

But on the other hand, i used the other king size bed for my workshop storage.  I took all of the cushions and doubled up where ill be sleeping, and now all my wood stock, paint cans and completed signs replaced them.   I had a hard time placing these things in the van, and if i was to go on the road with just the van again, i would definitely consider at least a rooftop carrier for some of that.

I had a little wasp problem too.  I went around the camper with duct tape trying to better seal up. Shot a nest nearby with spray last night.  The carport im half under is a nesting area, so im going to try a weird strategy, putting up a fake nest called The Waspinator.   Apparently it keeps them from building, cause they dont like other wasps...cant say i blame them.  It seems to have good reviews on amazon.

Now to find some second hand king size sheets, the new ones are just too expensive.

Staying busy, staying positive

With the weather finally breaking, i find i can keep a little busier.  Helps stave off depression.    I think whenever i start getting down ill just make a sign for practice.  Pallet wood is around here. I just carved up 2 custom sign orders, I hope more come in.  I also made a Mother's Day sign i am hoping will sell, etsy is pretty good on holidays im guessing.

I might try putting up a seperate site/blog for my signs.  Etsy is great but the fees are less through square if i can make a direct sale through that.  Also be nice to have a portfolio of all my work, not just item listings.  So people can get an idea for custom orders.

Im going to move into my popup camper this week, so i can take the van to the mechanic empty.  No need for him to have all my stuff, when i need it.  Trying to resell the camper has been a bust anyway.  Maybe ill get the van springs fixed/upgraded to haul it lol

Possible fix for the van?

Though ultimately i would like to have a 4x4 pickup, but for now i need transport, especially if i need a job.  Fortunately a mechanic is opening a shop on the street i am on, and he seems like a nice guy.  I think i will have him look at it.

I might try to work a deal out with him for the labor in exchange for a business sign.   That would be a huge help if he did, as it would save me precious funds and also give me experience doing larger scale signs.

In other news, i completed my second custom sign order, and actually got paid for it.  I think some potential customers did not understand that personalized work needs payment ahead of time, because it can not be sold to anyone else and carvings cant be erased :(  Ah well, hopefully more work will start coming in.

And if the van is fixed i could hit up the flea market.
